All the musicians we covered on Day 3 of SXSW were amazing!  Loved seeing Kina Grannis perform again, the Chapin Sisters’ harmonies were magical, and Ben Sollee’s cello skills blew me away!

Check out Michelle’s complete coverage of the day over at Aurgasm.

Day 2 at SXSW introduced me to lots of fantastic musicians. I was excited to see Lenka perform….she is adorable live! And we had a little run-in with Michael Cera. He is also adorable. =P

It’s been a week since we got back from SXSW (South by Southwest) and I think I’m still catching up on sleep!  You may remember that last year my friend Michelle & I covered shows at the SXSW music festival for Aurgasm, the music blog she writes for.  Well, we headed out to good ol’ Austin, Texas again for 3 jam-packed days of music!

After catching a red-eye flight out of LAX, a layover in Dallas, a broken plane + flight delay, and a 2-hour time change, we eventually found ourselves in Austin….exhausted but ready for the next 3 days of sleeplessness.

Here are pictures from Day 1.  Don’t forget to stop by Aurgasm and check out Michelle’s more thorough recap, complete with videos and free music downloads.  Who doesn’t like FREE music?

SXSW was amazing!  Tiring….but I had such an awesome time covering shows/bands with Michelle.  I literally took a gabillion pictures while we were there, and there are a few more I want to share, so here’s one last post to wrap-up our trip to Texas.

First off, here’s a quick 2 minute video I put together with some short clips I shot throughout our trip. [Shot with a 5D MK2]

Lots of wristbands to wear!

The Minor Mishap Marching Band

It was literally a party all day & all night in Downtown Austin.  The streets were always packed!!

We encountered lots of randomness on the streets!

Enjoyed lots of Lone Star and Tex Mex!

“It’s a party in the USA!”

After the madness that is SXSW, we spent Sunday relaxing & decompressing.  We slept in, perused the cute little shops on South Congress, enjoyed some coffee, and then met up with my friend Jason (of Texas-based Table 4 Weddings) who took us to Hill Country for a hike.

After our little hike, we had Jason take us to Congress Bridge to see the BATS!  While we waited for the sun to set & the bats to wake up, I realized Michelle & I had spent 5 days together in Texas and didn’t have a single picture together, so Jason helped us fix that!

Bat crazy! (NO, that’s not dust on my sensor. =P)

It was really hard to focus on the bats so, sorry, this one’s a little blurry.

And finally, a fun night at Trudy’s with the best Mexican martinis ever! (Where did that crown come from?!)

On the last day of SXSW, the weather in Austin dropped about 40 degrees……can we say FREEZING!?!  More than a little underdressed for the weather, we headed to Rachel Ray’s Feedback Party at Stubb’s BBQ in hopes of finally catching She & Him. After being ever so elusive on Friday, we finally got to see them play!  And thanks to my press badge, I got to be front & center for it all!  Although in all honesty, I think the photo pit is kind of an awkward angle to shoot from.

Later that night we were slightly less successful in getting into Perez Hilton’s party.  There was mass confusion outside as we waited in a line that, as we later discovered, led nowhere!  Darn you, Swagg, for leaving us in the dark….and in the cold!  I mean, c’mon, it was literally freezing that night!  Luckily, my skinny little frozen fingers did not break off like I thought they would.

[Michelle's Day 4 Aurgasm recap]

We stopped in at the Swagg blogger lounge to find some shelter from the cold.

Zooey is so cute!  According to Michelle, she is wearing Dear Creatures.

Hey Marseilles at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary

Out of all the talented musicians we saw at SXSW, these guys were my favorite!  And considering the standing ovation they got at the end of their set, I’m not the only one that thought they were pretty awesome.  You wouldn’t expect a group of guys like them to play the kind of music & instruments they do, and to play it so well!  I especially heart the violin & accordion players!
